Sue Gill Enquiry
Bio
Sue’s abstract works are based on landscape and seascapes. As a surfer, Sue describes experiencing nature at its rawest. The dynamic conditions of the ocean and weather provide an abundance of source material to be committed to memory. Experimenting with the surface of the canvas and how each layer looks and feels, Sue works quickly doing what ever she feels to and letting the canvas decide.
ARTIST STATEMENT
“Surfing all weather conditions, wild grey, wet, windy, sunny, hot, blue placid seas and skies and are all frozen in time in my memory. Using aspects of weather and drama to tell my story.
I love layering and mark making, using oil stick, charcoal and oil paint. I study the imagery, and think about how the marks and colour work or not work together.
If I feel unsatisfied with the design I turn the painting upside down and start again using the previous marks and paint to motivate.”
